The law of the jungle, physics,
thermodynamics and reality apply to all of us. It does not matter if it is your first trip into the woods or you've
spent most of your professional life there; no one is special.
Never let your guard down. Nature is not cruel, nor dangerous. Nature merely has defined limits that we must acknowledge
and respect.
Apathy (or indifference) toward planning with awareness
is the doorway to tragedy. Never choose ignorance or cut corners.
Goals
and plans must give way to changing circumstances. For example: Many experienced mountaineers continued toward
the summit when they knew that conditions had deteriorated. They are dead.
Snakes and animals never "just bite for no reason".
Remember
those infamous words? "Hey guys, watch this!"
